Orange lends an ear

Imagine how you might “hear” tomorrow

Whether you call it an “earphone” or a “hands-free kit” it lets you use your mobile phone without keeping the handset stuck to your ear. Operators provide it free with all models, it's useful, but it's very little used.
But it should be: Earphones are recommended by health authorities, they limit your exposure to radio waves when using a mobile by keeping it away from your ear, give you freedom of movement during a call by keeping your hands free, and improve sound quality.

Orange has asked the students of four Art & Design schools to rethink the mobile/earphone interface as a whole, with a single objective: imagine the new gadget that the whole world will want to use with their mobile. This project will run from October to December 2010 in cooperation with ENSCI (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle), STRATE COLLEGE DESIGNERS, ECOLE DUPERRE, and MAID (Master Industrial Design) at CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS in London.

A selection of the best projects from each school will be the subject of an exhibition in early 2011 open to design professionals and the general public at the Lieu du Design, 74 rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, 12th arrondissement Paris.
